Remy is a person who relies on countless number of gods, being almost dependent on them to get through life. She has little self-confidence and poise. On the other hand, she is obedient, always goes to church, and is athletic. Remy is recognized as a decent person, but she undergoes a bit of trouble after she witnesses a stop sign being stolen. She regrets ever being there and endures the sorrow that she had killed someone secretly and with difficulty.

b. Mac Marland-Remys younger brother who is in eighth grade and almost fourteen years old. He is physically small for his grade and his lifes goal is to be a little more disgusting today than he had been yesterday. Mac participates in karate, tennis, swimming, weight lifting, and favors lying awake on the bed doing nothing. He is extremely annoying, nosy about everything, enjoys saying the phrase, Im gonna sue em, and is worthless as well as rotten. Then again, Mac is also perceptive and observant. In the end, he changed dynamically by defending and caring for his sister Remy and also altering Mrs. Campbells attitude towards Morgan.

c. Mrs. Marland-Remys mother who is around 46 years old and approves of every aspect of her daughter. Her first name is Imogene and she is a receptionist in a pediatric practice. Philips media manager serial number crack. In the end, she is extremely furious at Remy for deliberately lying to her and taking a stop sign without stopping to think.

d. Mr. Marland-Remys father who always believes in his daughters abilities, whether she had any or not. For example, he supports her when she plays basketball and shows affection in this way. After Remy told her parents, Mr. Marland started to weep, leaving the screaming to Mrs. Marland as if he had been broken.

e. Morgan Campbell-A sixteen year old boy who is Remy Marlands boyfriend. He is characterized as blond, slim, athletic, brilliant, articulate, successful, and overall perfect. There were three things that Morgan desires; a girlfriend, a license, and a car. He enjoys looking at the magazine Car and Driver, driving, and his masculine superiority. He had been friends with Nicholas Budie during fifth and sixth grade. They would play in the traffic after dark and play chase, but after Nickie entered junior high, everything changed. Morgan has habits of skipping class and ignoring his parents, rarely speaking to them. After he and Remy had fallen in love with each other on the sign-stealing expedition, he disregarded Remy the same way he ignored his parents, showing that he was timid. Though Morgan plans to ask Remy out soon, he never develops enough courage to do it. He is incredibly wealthy since his parents are two prominent lawyers. Every piece of furniture or appliance he has is state-of-the-art and immense. Morgan is the type of person who doesnt like to argue, but instead exercise. He was the person who physically cut off the stop sign with a hacksaw since Remy was not strong enough to do the task.

f. Mrs. Campbell-Morgans mother who has the first name of Nance. She yearns for money and owns a law firm. She is beautiful, brilliant, and rich. Nance has a BMW and Range Rover, signifying that she is successful and prosperous. Both Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Campbell are wealthy lawyers. He has three TVs in order to see how the media covered every event, especially his, demonstrating that he was serious and intent. After Morgan had admitted that he had taken the stop sign, Rafes fuel was used up, consuming his energy so the campaign was doomed.

h. Starr Campbell-Morgans sister who yearns for both power and money, which she calls popularity. She is twelve years old and has a cruel personality. Starr is popular due to the fear of her and she doesnt have one single friend. She is known as the blackmailer of the century.

i. Lark-Remys best friend who is small, slight, talkative, laughs at everything, and caring since she tells Remy about the news of Denise Thompsons death. Even though she is tiny, she has a drill sergeants voice and used to take signs all the time with her friend Joel until he moved. Lark always seems to be ahead of the subject or felt the subject she was talking about didnt need to be named. Furthermore, she remembers everything in great detail. She lives in a high-rise apartment complex unlike everyone else in the school that lived in houses. Larks parents never came to anything and they have basically skipped her life.

j. Denise Thompson-Woman who was twenty-six years old that was hit broadside by a dump truck and killed instantly as a result of Morgan and Remy stealing a stop sign. This happened on the intersection of Warren Street and Cherry Road after she dropped her baby-sitter off. Denise leaves a two-year-old son named Bobby and a husband named Mark behind. She had brown hair and was pretty.

k. Nicholas Budie-Nickie was friends with Morgan when they had been in fifth and sixth grade. After entering junior high, he demanded to be called Nicholas and didnt play anymore. He wanted Morgan to dry up and blow away. Nicholas is now a high school senior, seventeen years old, and has an old Buick as a car. Upon receiving the car, he would run over animals. Nicholas is toothpick thin, looks like a scarecrow, has outgrown his clothes, smokes, has facial features of a rat, and people say that he is pond scum. Parents dont want their kids near him since he is trouble.

l. Mr. Fielding-He is the fearless teacher of Drivers Education and disregards the student driving. Mr. Fielding would listen to his Walkman instead, usually a station specializing in money discussions. He would look at the landscape instead of the traffic. Also, he doesnt hear anything, which includes traffic, horns, sirens, and student conversation. Mr. Fielding refuses to take the time to memorize names of each member of the class, so he gives each person a nametag. He isnt actually teaching the eight-week session, but just simply there. He wished he had a different life and wondered why he stopped teaching math and turned to Drivers Ed. Mr. Fielding is the only person that let the incident go, unlike Remy and Morgans parents.

3. Plot

a. In the beginning, the author introduces how Remy is in love with Morgan Campbell, what their families were like, and how they are in the same Drivers Ed class. Then, they both agree to go on a sign-stealing expedition, an easy first date. Although it was romantic stealing the signs, romance turned into tragedy upon hearing of Denise Thompsons death. Once hearing the news of the fatal accident, both Morgan and Remy were distraught as well as nervous. Both Remy and Morgan thought that it wasnt completely their fault that Denise Thompson had died since they only took a stop sign. They didnt think clearly when taking the stop sign and Mr. Thompson had created many advertisements that disturbed both Morgan and Remy emotionally. Both of them hated the person they killed slightly because they wondered why Denise Thompson couldnt have driven home another way. Their consciences were scarred for life and both of them wanted to be a nice person, but little by little they werent nice anymore. They had been at the wrong place at the wrong time since it was actually Nicholas Budie who had chosen the particular stop sign. Both Remy and Morgan didnt want to admit that they stole the stop sign, but eventually they couldnt tolerate secrecy anymore. Once they did tell about taking the stop sign, it poured out a mixture of anger, rage, guilt, shame, and remorse. Both Remy and Morgans parents met and discussed what would happen if they brought in the police. Afterwards, they paid a visit to Mr. Thompson, who told them that he thought about every punishment he could think of including killing them, prison, and tattooing Denises name on their arm. Also, Mr. Thompson knew he couldnt do anything to them or he would be arrested and then no one would be there to take care of Bobby. He was also aware that the police could only charge them for stealing a sign. In the end, it was Christmas and both families were beginning to forgive; hope and love were still around.

4. Paragraph discussing what I would have done if I were either Remy or Morgan using at least three supporting examples from the story.

Caroline B Cooney Books Oldest First

a. If I were either Remy or Morgan, I would have done exactly what they did since it was the right thing to do. For one, the police could only charge me for stealing a sign. I would also be able to get the whole incident off my back and be relieved. Another example is that my choice would be ethical and moral. Although Remy and Morgan took a long time in order to tell the truth, in the end they did the right thing. If they hadnt told, then life wouldnt be worth living anymore, thinking always about Denise Thompson and how they helped kill her. After all, it was only a stop sign.
